Dear Reader,
The Apothecary is proud to celebrate and offer access to Medley: Narratives of Healing.
In Spring, 2024, Ivory Fu (MD Class of 2027) curated this rich collection of art from our community in the form of a gallery exhibition. The Positive Exposure Gallery, founded by photographer Rick Guidotti, hosted the month-long show as well as an opening celebration with artists and small workshops organized by The Apothecary. The artists agreed to make their work available beyond the month of in-person exhibition via our online special issue. Our introduction to the collection this time comes directly from curator Ivory Fu:
“Medley is a showcase of visual art created by students and doctors in the Mount Sinai community who, in addition to studying and treating patients, transform their experiences into creative works. The exhibition bonds the fields of medicine and art, both intricate studies of the human experience and the bodies, through which we interface with the world and construct our lives. Paintings, photographs, and mixed media transport us from the operating room to the cardiology clinic, and from the anatomy lab to tough conversations with patients.
Medley is more than an art exhibition; it’s a space created through unified desire and great collective effort. Viewers are welcomed into the artists’ own personal and familial experiences with identity, health and illness. What unfolds is a testament to the healing power of shared vulnerability: these stories seek to open up room for connection and conversation, from which viewers can arrive at a deep sense of humanity.”
