Papez Circuit

The Papez circuit is a neural pathway for the control of emotional expression. This triptych explores the artist's professional transition from genitourinary surgery to psychiatry, traversing distinct but interfacing polychrome landscapes with varying precision, abstraction, and cathexis.


James Young is a 2nd year psychiatry resident at Mount Sinai Hospital. Prior to medical school at ISMMS, James studied illustration and painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. His painting practice explores themes of medical anthropology, color theory, and memory.
