From the artist: Throughout Cuba, the Yoruba culture of Nigeria intertwines itself with the effervescent energy and creative spirit of the island. With its roots in Yoruba traditions, aché is a metaphysical Cuban concept of a universal energy that brings us all together. Aché concurrently calls to ancestral lineages broken by slavery and to the cultivation of togetherness made anew. The subjects embracing the diasporic sands together, this photo embodies the spirit of aché; a sense of community and togetherness that remains on these shores all while a tempest of global uncertainty and unrest unfurls ahead.
